Could a couple of Akron faces become regulars on HGTV?
An agent representing a production company has floated the idea of a show on the home and garden network to Sabrena Schweyer and Samuel Salsbury, the husband-and-wife principals of garden design and development firm Salsbury-Schweyer Inc. They hinted at the news on the company’s Facebook page recently, and Schweyer later filled in some of the details.
Talks are preliminary and details sketchy, but apparently the plans are for a show that would document the work of a high-end landscape design company, Schweyer said. She said she’d had phone conversations with the production company and is gathering insights from TV hosts the couple knows.
”I’m not sure if we’re even going to apply, but it’s a fun thing. It’s nice to be asked,” she said.
Recycle Day
Don’t throw away your plastic pots and flats. Save them to bring to Graf Growers Garden Center next Saturday for its Recycle Day.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the garden center will collect empty plastic garden containers and tags. They’ll be unloaded from vehicles and sorted by staff members and volunteers from the Copley High School Environmental Club and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron’s Green Team; then they’ll be recycled by a local company.
Graf Growers is at 1015 White Pond Drive, Copley Township. For information, call 330-836-2727.
Duck nest raided
Bad news from Hoffman’s Garden Center: The duck nest that had been built at the edge of one of its display ponds was raided last weekend by some kind of predator, which ate the eggs.
The mother duck escaped harm, Hoffman’s marketing specialist Brian Esker reported.
Employees at the garden center in Green had urged caution among its customers who came to see the nest and added extra plants around it, but in the end they couldn’t protect it from wildlife.
”Things like this are sad, but common in nature,” Esker said in an email.
